I have to say…. I really dislike when there are knots in the yarn. You knit along nicely and suddenly there is a break in the yarn which has just been tied together with a knot. This is particularly irritating when the yarn is expensive. For example, the Alfa Sandnes yarn I used for Celtic Knot was close to $6 per 50g skein of 60 m. You would think that you could get 60 m worth of yarn without a break. But no – several of the skeins had knots in them, which of course I did not notice until it was between my fingers and ready to be knit.
The yarn I’m using for the Aran Afghan has been good so far, but I just stumbled upon the first knot in 13 skeins. At least I got 12 knot-free skeins with 163 m of wool…..
Grrrr!
The Stanley Cup Finals start today, and the Ottawa Senators are in the finals. This means at minimum 4 lovely evenings of knitting for me. Go Sens Go!!!!
The second Snowy Triangle Scarf is completed. The yarn used was Gedifra, Fashion Trend Stripe. It’s 51% new wool and 49% acrylic, 90 m per 50 g skein. I used 2.5 skeins and knit on 7.0 mm needles.
Project start: May 19, 2007
Completed: May 24, 2007
I’m noticing that the colours show much better in outdoor photos at this time a year. So indulge me while I’m decorating the dwarf spruce in our yard.
Here is another bear. I used a charcoal gray, Shetland Chunky 25% Wool/75% Acrylic blend from Patons (needle size 5.5 mm). This bear is for my new nephew, and we will deliver it this weekend, when we get to visit him for the first time. It was really completed about a month ago, except I ran out of stuffing, so I had to wait until yesterday to stuff the head and finish it completely.
Just in time for our trip too.
The snowy triangle scarf is completed. I used 2 skeins of Tosca yarn from Lang Yarns.
Project start: May 16, 2007
Completed: May 19, 2007
I have a second one on the needles right now, in shades of orange and black.
I have cast on a new project. One in which I don’t really have to think while knitting.
We had a death in the family, and that has of course taken most of my time and energy. It’s been a difficult couple of days for all of us, and I have to thank my friends who have helped me with the kids. I’m sure the next week or so will also be difficult, with the funeral and funeral guests.
The pattern is Snowy Triangle Scarf from Handknit Holiday by Melanie Falick. I’m using a denim blue yarn with some shades of gray and black from Lang Yarns (Tosca). It’s 55% wool and 45% acrylic, 92 m per 50 g skein, and 7.0 mm needles. I imagine I will use 2 skeins, as that is what I have.
Ta-da! Here is the first Falling In Love Sock. I think it turned out really well. I love the cables and how nicely it fits my foot. Now I just have to make a second one so I can wear them. Well, that, and wait for cooler weather. The season for socks seems to be over, so the actual wearing may have to wait until October.
Well, nothing is completed, but I feel compelled to update with some progress pictures. The Falling in love socks are coming along nicely. I have almost completed the first sock. The pattern is very pretty. I did alter the pattern slightly, in that once the pattern was established on the back of the leg, the cables would line up on both sides. That means that the last cable on the back half of the pattern is worked just prior to the first cable on the front half. I.e. the pattern goes cableB – cableF – heartsF – cableF – cableB – heartsB, instead of front together and back together.
I also altered the second k4tog to an ssssk for symmetry. I am also planning on adding a ribbed cuff (k1p1) on the top for a more finished look.
The toe looks nice – short row toe looks more square than the one on the top-down socks I knit before. I think this more closely resembles the shape of my foot than the pointy toe.
The Aran Afghan is also coming along. After 3 false starts, I finally settled on a pattern that I like. I have knit about 1/3 of the center panel, and have added bobbles (popcorn) to the pattern. This is such a fun knit. I get to use so many different cables and techniques that I feel like a real expert. I can’t wait for this afghan to be finished. I am also working on a name for it. Stay tuned for more info.
By the way, the Senators are cooperating and we’re set for a third round. More evening knitting time for me. Yay!
